Welcome to the Week 13 Ski Group.
Approximately 10 years ago (1999) a small group of like minded
people got together to see if they could organise a week’s ski break
for some spinally injured friends (and their carers and friends) in
Sweden. Little did they know what they had let themselves in for!!
They
travelled out to Sweden on Week 13 of the Swedish ski season and the
name has stuck ever since. The object of the original Week 13 ski
trips was to provide a week of semi independent skiing for those who
have made use of previous ski courses in Sweden and had reached a
reasonable standard of competence. It was designed to take over
where the beginners course ended and be a “half way house” for those
who eventually wanted a totally independent week.
The
ski weeks were a tremendous success with many people returning year
after year and have now become the highlight of the year for many –
a quick review of the photo gallery on this site speaks for itself.
The basic itinerary for the week is as follows:-
·
Meet at Stansted Airport on Sunday Morning for single early
morning flight to Trondheim (Norway).
·
Transfer by adapted bus to the Åre Continental Inn in Åre for 7
days accommodation on a half board basis.
·
Daily transfer in our own minibus or ski school minibus to and
from the slopes
·
Full lift pass included.
·
A night out in town with a celebration dinner plus a trip to a
night club if sufficient demand .
·
Return journey to Stansted via Trondheim arriving mid morning
the following Sunday.
The week has the following features and benefits:-
·
6 days intensive skiing with full use of the resort and outlying
district.
In
previous years we have skied in Are, Duved, Bjornen, Tegefjall,
Ulladalen, Bydalen and Trillevallen.
We employ qualified ski guides for the area but more importantly we
are free to ski wherever we want, wherever the group decide, but we
do always ski as a group!
·
As a group we maintain the highest level of enjoyment and always
with the highest level of safety and every individual is expected to
work within the group to the benefit of the others.
·
In addition to 6 or 7 kart skiers the group will consist of 4 or 5
volunteer buddies qualified to assist where necessary.
·
If you need a carer it is your responsibility to organise one.
However, if this proves difficult please contact us and there is a
possibility that we can put you in touch with a personal carer or
one to share if that is suitable to your needs.
·
The emphasis of the week is on a group of friends skiing together
and enjoying the full range of skiing Åre and the surrounding area
has to offer.
·
This is not a week of instruction but you will be encouraged to
raise your skiing to the next level.
All persons are expected to provide suitable clothing for the
conditions.
If you want to find out more email
either
Stephen or Neil.
We look forward to seeing you on the
slopes.
